Elephant calf dies at Kherbari in Biswanath district

BISWANATH CHARIALI: An elephant calf died in a tea garden on Thursday evening while it fell into a ditch after straying out of its herd at Kherbari under Gingia police station in Biswanath district. According to information, a herd of around 50 elephants has been roaming in and around Monabari Tea Estate in Biswanath district for the last couple of days and a baby elephant got separated from the herd and fell into the ditch in the tea garden. The herd of elephants has come from Kaziranga National Park by crossing the Brahmaputra River. Getting information, a team of forest officials and veterinary doctors rushed to the spot and provided medical treatment to the elephant calf, but it succumbed to its injuries.
