MANGALDAI: Sipajhar area in Darrang district on Sunday descended into gloom and sorrow over the demise of eminent academician, litterateur and social activist Bhadreswar Nath.

Known as one of the architects of Sipajhar, Bhadreswar Nath breathed his last in the wee hours on Sunday at his residence at Pacchim Chuba of Sipajhar. He was 92. He took his retirement from service as the Principal of Pacchim Rangamati HS School near Mangaldai. A man with strong personality and dedicated selfless service towards the society, Nath successfully shouldered his responsibility as the president of the governing body of Sipajhar College and Sipajhar BEd College. He was also nominated as the general secretary and president of Sipajhar Sahitya Sabha. His sincere and dedicated service as the chief advisor of the reception committee of the 68th annual conference of Axam Xahitya Xabha at Sipajhar in 2005 also played a key role in successful organization of the annual conference.

A large number of mourners and followers took out a procession with his body throughout the area. He leaves behind his wife, two sons, namely Professor of Cotton University, Dr Suresh Chandra Nath and newly-elected Ward Commissioner of newly-formed Sipajhar Municipality Board, Debajit Nath.
