BARPETA: A student of Barpeta Medical College and Hospital (FAAMCH), Minhazuddin alias Minhaz of Baghbar has been arrested for deceiving patients. A patient named Pinky Deka of Gomura village of Sarthebari in the Barpeta district came to FAAMCH for treatment on February 14. Minhazuddin identified himself as a worker of the medical college and helped the patient getting admitted in the hospital. He told the patient that it would be better to do the medical tests in a private lab and convinced the patient to do the tests outside FAAMCH. The cost of the tests was Rs 5,970 but the same tests are done in FAAMCH at Rs 900.

To allegedly take commission from the private laboratory, Minhazuddin forced the patient to do the tests outside. A complaint was made to the FAAMCH principal. The principal suggested the patient and her family lodge an FIR against Minhaz at the Medical College police outpost. The FIR was lodged by the patient’s guardian, Bipul Deka. Minhazuddin was arrested on Wednesday and produced in the court.
