Faculty Member Of Tezpur University Receives "Young Scientist /Innovator" Award.

TEZPUR: Assam Science, Technology and Environment Council (ASTEC) has recognised Dr. Moon Moon Devi, an assistant professor in the physics department at Tezpur University, as a "Young Scientist/Innovator" for the year 2022.

ASTEC was founded in a bid to advance scientific, technological, and environmental research in Assam, .

One of its main objectives of ASTEC is to formulate policies that are in the best interest of both the state and the country. This involves considering various aspects of science, technology, and the environment to come up with a comprehensive set of policies to address these issues.

Additionally, the Council is responsible for designing various schemes and programs related to these areas. The promotion of research in the fields of science, technology and environment in Assam is also a key goal of the Council, which it supports financially.

Furthermore, the Council advises various departments and organizations of the Government of Assam and other public bodies on matters related to science, technology, and environment, providing guidance on important issues.

Prof. Kishori Mohan Pathak, a well-known physicist and the former vice chancellor of Tezpur University, also received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the council for his contributions to the field of physics.

Neutrino physics, detector simulation and equipment, and machine learning-based data analysis of particle detectors for high-energy physics are among the areas of research that Dr. Moon Moon Devi is interested in.

At Tezpur University's Department of Physics, she serves as the NuAPP (Neutrino & Astro-Particle Physics) Laboratory's principle investigator (PI). The Hyper-Kamiokande Neutrino experiment, which is being conducted in Japan, as well as the Gamma Ray Astronomy PeV EnergieS phase-3 (GRAPES-3) experiment being conducted at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Ooty both require simulation, instrumentation, and physics analysis being done by her group at the moment.

Dr. Devi was congratulated on obtaining the honour by Professor Shambhu Nath Singh, Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University. He hoped Dr. Devi would continue to “contribute significantly to the scientific realm” and advance her industry.

Dr. Devi was also felicitated for winning the Award by the Tezpur University Teachers' Association (TUTA). All of the TUTA executive members, as well as faculty members from the Department of Physics, attended the felicitation event. Dr. Devi received congratulations from TUTA President Professor Debendra Chandra Baruah for obtaining the coveted prize. He said, “Her achievement is a proud moment for the University fraternity.”
