Fake Assam Rifles Gang Member Arrested by Jorhat Police

The person identified as Dhrubajyoti Sarma and the police has also seized one Hector vehicle with the nameplate of Assam Rifles from his possession.

GUWAHATI: The Jorhat police yet again arrested another fake member of Assam Rifles from Itachali in Nagaon.

In the past few weeks, the Jorhat police have busted a gang of fake Assam Rifles from different areas in Assam.

The arrested person was identified as Dhrubajyoti Sarma and the police have also seized one Hector vehicle with the nameplate of Assam Rifles from his possession.

Earlier on August 27, the Jorhat police arrested similar four persons from Teliapatti of Jorhat and seized a truck similar to Assam Rifles vehicle. Among these four two were in Assam Rifles uniform which late proved that they were fake members of Assam Rifles.

During the interrogation of these four people, the police successfully arrested another person Rupam Mazumder from Lumding on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the police have started an investigation into the case.

Earlier on August 27, The Bokajan police and personnel of Assam Rifles during a joint operation arrested four persons and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition from their possession. The operation was carried out based on secret information at Ghariyaldubi area under Bokajan police station. The four persons identified as Krishna Orang, Robert Haro, Lokash Kangari and Raju Ghatowar. The police arrested all of them on the spot.

During the thorough search the police recovered a 9 mm pistol, 22 mm pistol, a Chinese grenade, a handmade grenade, and five rounds of bullets. However, after the operation the police informed that they don't have any link with any terrorist group but further investigation is going on.

Earlier, A suspected arms smuggler who was arrested in a joint operation by Border Security Force (BSF) and Assam Police in Karimganj district were killed in an encounter a few hours later while trying to escape. The deceased, Nurul Islam, and another accused H Liang Khiyamon were arrested for carrying illegal arms while onboard the Silchar-Guwahati train at Assam's Badarpur. Islam was killed around midnight at the Marjatkandi area under Badarpur police station when he attempted to escape, police claimed.
