
SIVASAGAR: A meeting was held to bid farewell to the students of the 6th Semester (final year of graduation) of the department of Sociology of Bir Lachit Borphukan College, a leading educational institution of Sivasagar district on Thursday.
The meeting was presided over by Dr Simanta Baruah, Head of the Department of Sociology of the college. Manoj Kumar Gogoi, assistant secretary of Sivasagar Zila Xahitya Xabha and senior journalist, was the distinguished guest on the occasion. In his speech, Gogoi urged the college graduates to realize that education is a lifelong process.
Shikha Dutta, vice-principal of the college and former Head of the Sociology department, urged the students to become good citizens. Dipali Neog, Principal-in-charge of the college, in her speech advised the students to build their lives and be responsible towards their parents.
Senior professor Ajit Bora addressed the students and said that they should not waste their time just looking for government jobs but engage in other activities to make their lives meaningful.
Dr Simanta Baruah said that the door is open for those students who want to pursue higher education and those who want to move forward and try to become self-reliant. Om Prakash Yadav, who came from Begusarai district of Bihar and studied in the department, said, “I will never forget this formal education received from Assam in my life.” Many other students also expressed their feelings on the occasion.
