FIR lodged against owner of Patkai Resort at Bengali Balijan in Digboi

DIGBOI: Following the death of a person from the tea tribe community - Mangal Urang (38), who was engaged as a temporary worker within the campus of Patkai Resort at Bengali Balijan under Digboi Police station on Friday afternoon, a case has been registered against the owner and management of the resort.

According to Digboi Police, based on a complaint lodged by Buddheswar Urang, the brother of the deceased, a case No 226/20 has been registered and being prosecuted u/s 304(A), 34 IPC.

"The gross negligence on the part of the owner and management of the resort was responsible for the death of the a worker who hailed from Mamorani area," stated the FIR copy.

It may be recalled here that the corpse of the deceased was spotted lying still on the ground within the resort premises in the afternoon of September 25 from where it was immediately rushed to Digboi Civil Hospital where the doctor declared him brought dead.

Meanwhile, following the unfortunate death of the tea tribe youth, the local people comprising the tea tribe students' body took to the street and resorted to two hours of road blockade here upon the NH-38 along Digboi-Makum road near the said resort.

Various slogans against the owner of the resort Jiten Dutta the pro-talk ULFA leader were raised by the aggrieved agitators demanding legal actions and one-time compensation for the bereaved family members of the deceased.

According to the police, the cause of the death is yet to be ascertained. It is being suspected that the worker might have been electrocuted during the work leading to his death.

"The investigation is afoot and no arrest has been made to this effect," said the Investigating officer of the case.
