First COVID-19 positive case detected in Dhubri district

DHUBRI: Sixty-seven-year-old Jamal Uddin Haji of ward no. 3 (Kazipara area) of Chapor town of Dhubri district, was declared COVID-19 positive on Tuesday. This is the first case of corona positive from Dhubri district having Nizamuddin Markaz connection.

Jamal Uddin, who was in Chapor Hospital, was shifted to Guwahati in the morning on Tuesday. Earlier, he was stamped by Dhubri Civil Hospital and his sample was collected with advice to go for home quarantine for 14 days on April 5, a health official informed. The health official said that his sample was sent to Guwahati for test and result came out to be corona positive.

Jamal Uddin went to attend the religious congregation at Nizamuddin Markaz by Rajdhani Express from Guwahati on March 5 and while returning, he boarded the same train on March 10 and reached Guwahati on the following day, a local pharmacist of Chapor town informed.

Sources in the health department informed that after few days he reportedly developed some symptoms of cold and cough and consulted one physician at Bongaigaon on March 18, and thereafter he attended several jamaats (religious assembly) at Chapor, Bilasipara and some other pockets of the district.

When contacted by The Sentinel, Dhubri District Surveillance Officer of Integrated Disease, Dr Joydip Bhattacharyya informed that there were nine coronavirus suspects in the isolation wards of Dhubri Civil Hospital. “Beside this, 2,332 persons are in home quarantine. Steps are being taken to quarantine the Kazipara area in ward no. 3 of Chapor town and a team is working to prepare a list of persons Jamal Uddin came in contact with since March 12 till April 5,” Dr Bhattacharyya said.
