First-ever pickleball clinic & exhibition match inaugurated in Haflong

HAFLONG: Chief Executive Member of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, Debolal Gorlosa, inaugurated the district’s first-ever pickleball clinic and exhibition match at Lal Field (Municipal Field), Haflong, on Wednesday. The landmark event was organized by the Haflong Pickleball Association under the aegis of the Assam Pickleball Association.

This marks the official introduction of pickleball in Dima Hasao, a fast-paced paddle sport that blends elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. Played on a smaller court, pickleball is rapidly gaining popularity across India for its accessibility, energetic gameplay, and community appeal. With its debut in Haflong, the sport is expected to resonate with local youth and sports enthusiasts, potentially becoming a new favourite in the district’s athletic landscape. CEM Gorlosa was joined by Executive Member Donpainon Thaosen, Member of Autonomous Council John Poithong, and Chairperson of Haflong Municipal Board Miss Ripa Hojai, reflecting strong institutional support for the initiative.

A key highlight of the event was the live demonstration by members of the Assam Pickleball Association, led by Hydar Ali Rymbai. Their spirited performance showcased the sport’s dynamic style and inclusive spirit, drawing enthusiastic responses from the audience.
