Five arrested for drugs trafficking; heroin seized in Tinsukia

TINSUKIA: Based on a specific input on trafficking of drugs, an operation was launched by Tinsukia police jointly with CRPF at New Tinsukia Railway Junction area on Wednesday evening.
The team apprehended five persons, including three women, in the parking area of New Tinsukia Railway Jn. They confessed of having concealed the drugs under their bodies. The police recovered total 24 soap box plastic containers with around 312.67 gram suspected heroin after their body search, the market value of which would be more than Rs 30 lakh. Further, two persons were also apprehended who came to receive the drugs from Railway Junction and on thorough search, the team seized a KIA Seltos vehicle bearing registration number AS23AE2188, cash Rs 5120 and six mobile handsets from their possession.
The arrested women have been identified as Salma Begam (26), wife of Abdul Barek of Dimapur Miya Bazar Dimapur, Kumari Chetry (30), wife of Bahadur Chetry of Dihafrey Basti, Dimapur, and Danmaya Chetry (24) of Dimapur Police Colony Dimapur. While the traffickers who came to Railway to receive consignments were Tulen Hazarika alias Baba (40), son of Tankeswar Hazarika of Dirak Gohora Guri, PS-Kakopather and Turonjit Sonowal (23), son of Punakon Sonowal of Bor Diyak Gohora Guri, PS-Kakapathar.
