LAKHIMPUR: Due to inclement weather and heavy rainfall, flash flood has once again hit Lakhimpur district since Wednesday. The third wave of flood of the year has inundated a total of 62 revenue villages under four Revenue Circles (RC) in the district. At present, flood has affected 31 villages under Naoboicha RC, 13 villages under Narayanpur RC, 6 villages under North Lakhimpur RC and 12 villages under Kadam RC. The overflowing water of the Singara River has inundated Gosanibari, No. 1 Gelahati, No. 2 Gelahati, Chengelijan, Ahomoni, Khalihamari, Borgoya, Gendhali, Solmora, Kawoibhuruka and Kowadonga along with 20 other villages under Naoboicha RC. The flood caused by River Pabho has also wreaked havoc in the Laluk area under the same RC.

Rapid surge of flood breached the Bokanadi Panchayat bundh at No. 2 Sonapur while flood caused by the River Pabho breached its Panchayat bundh at Boloma. Flood breached the Mohghuli to Tatiyemora agriculture dyke at Mohghuli and Bokanadi panchayat bundh at Haribor Naharani too. Massive erosion has damaged the No. 2 Sonapur and Lukumapur Road while overflowing water of River Singara is rolling on the road from Pahumora to Pakania at Ahomoni under Naoboicha RC. Morever, Dezoo Chah Janajati ME School has been submerged by flood under the same RC.

On the other hand, flood caused by River Subansiri has inundated 13 villages in Narayanpur RC. The flood caused by the same river and Kakoi has affected people and livestock of a total of 12 villages under Kadam RC. In addition to them, four villages named Bamungaya, Ajarguri, Kharkati and Amtola PGR have also been inundated by flood caused by the River Ranganadi while flood caused by the River Subansiri has inundated No. 1 Hindu Adarsha Gaon and River Nothing has affected the Joyhing area. Flash flood caused by the River Joyhing has damaged the Joyhing Tiniali Road under North Lakhimpur RC.

As per report from the district administration, the present deluge has affected a total of 32,647 people, 874.5 hectares of crop area, 5,815 big animals, 2,755 small animals and 150 poultry. The district administration distributed relief items on Thursday.

At present, most of the major rivers in the district are flowing above danger level as per information from the District Water Resources Department. The mighty Brahmaputra is flowing above danger level at Jamuguri, River Subansiri at Dhalghat, Ghancharai and Silikhaguri, River Pabho at NH-15 crossing and River Dikrong at Sissapothar RCC bridge. There is a strong possibility of worsening of the flood situation in the district because of the present inclement weather and incessant rain.
