A CORRESPONDENT

DOOMDOOMA: Baghjan area was severely hit by flood due to rising water level of Brahmaputra River and reverse flow to Maguri-Matapung Beel. The critical flood condition in Baghjan area continues to halt operations at site. Debris removal activity could not be resumed till the time of filing this report. A technical team comprising of OIL and Alert professionals visited the site on Monday to assess and draw the next course of action plan keeping in view overall safety of men and material.

All team members and their crew have been kept at standby at Duliajan for further advice. Approach road to an equipment staging area and debris lay down area were still submerged in flood water. Only security and fire personnel are stationed at the site. Both the pump stations at Dangori River Bank have been submerged in water. Steps are being taken for safety.

The Environmental Impact Assessment by M/s ERM is in progress. As a part of the study, the team held discussion with local ecological experts on July 11. The study will continue till one week beyond the date of capping the well successfully.

Sample collection for monitoring of air quality and noise level by TERI for analysis is in progress. With regard to TERI study on Bioremediation of Sludge, fresh flood and incessant rain have hampered the site preparation activities of bioremediation process of affected areas. On the other hand for CSIR-NEIST Seismological Study recording is in progress in the vicinity of Baghjan-5 well.
