LAKHIMPUR: Though the present flood situation of Lakhimpur improved from July 17, the situation has once again turned critical since Sunday with the rising water level of the major rivers of the district.

The overflowing rivers of the district like Subansiri, Kakoi, Sampora, Kumatiya, Singara, Dikrong, Pisala and Sessa have inundated a total of 86 revenue villages under six Revenue Circles of the district. At present, 17 villages under Subansiri RC, 22 villages under Dhakuakhana RC, 4 villages under Naoboicha RC, 26 villages under Narayanpur RC, 12 villages under Bihpuriya RC and 5 villages under Kadam RC have been inundated afresh by flash flood. Notably, these villages under the district have been consecutively affected by flood as they are not fully protected from the rivers with embankment infrastructures.

As per report found from District Disaster Management Agency (DDMA), a total of 38,348 people, 1451.50 hectares of crop areas, 18,270 big animals, 8,956 small animals and 8252 poultry have been affected by the present wave of the deluge. Flood has perennially paralyzed the normal life of the people and the livestock and damaged newly planted paddy crops in the affected areas. The livestock have to suffer a lot due to lack of fodder.

However, the district administration deployed three health teams and three veterinary teams in the flood-affected areas on Monday. Of the three health teams, one was deployed in Narayanpur RC while two were deployed in Bihpuriya RC. Similarly, one veterinary team was deployed in Subansiri RC while two were deployed in Narayanpur RC.
