DOOMDOOMA: Maneswar Barman, former Head Assistant of Doomdooma Town Committee (DDTC -now Municipal Board) passed away at a private nursing home, Guwahati on Sunday. He was 83 and is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters. He was admitted in ICU on testing COVID positive a few days back but was found to be negative on Saturday, according to family sources. He served as Head Assistant of DDTC for long twenty-two years before his retirement in 1999 and was pivotal for safeguarding many of the valuable land and assets of the town like recovering plot of land where Doomdooma 30 Bedded FRU, Doomdooma Water Supply Project are situated now from the clutches of vested interest as he had to shoulder all the responsibilities on behalf of the public in absence of an elected civic body for long twenty-years before Asam Gana Parishad (AGP) came to power in 1996. He was also associated with many other socio-cultural organisations during his service tenure at Doomdooma and also took part in acting on the stage of Doomdooma Natya Mandir.

After his superannuation he went to live permanently at his native village Jagara in Nalbari district. His death has cast a pall of gloom in the town and many organisations including Doomdooma Municipal Board (DMB), Doomdooma Press Club, Doomdooma Asamiya Puja Aru Natya Mandir Xamiti, Doomdooma Sakha Xahitya Xabha condoled his death.
