RANGIA: "Today is the historic day for Kamrup district," said State Finance Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma during the foundation stone-laying ceremony of Amingaon Science Centre and Planetarium at West Dadara near Soalkuchi under Kamrup district on Wednesday.

State Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta was also present in the programme. In his speech, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the Science Centre and Planetarium would open a new era for the students and the future generation. "This will also be a temple of knowledge," he said. He also spoke about the developmental works completed in his Jalukbari constituency. He promised to complete more developmental projects for the development of Jalukbari constituency in the coming days.

According to him, a new road from Agiyathuri to Soalkuchi, new bridge on the Brahmaputra connecting Soalkuchi and Palashbari, a cancer hospital, one indoor stadium, Shankardev Health Science University and a medical college would be established in the near future.

The Kamrup District Science Centre and Planetarium will be constructed under the Assam Science Technology and Environment Council at Rs 19.73 crore. Minister Keshab Mahanta in his speech informed about the projects and schemes completed through his department in the State. He also assured to establish Science Centre and 11 planetariums in the 22 districts of the State.

Kamrup Deputy Commissioner Kailash Karthik N and other dignitaries were present in the programme. Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma also inaugurated a hospital in Kamalpur, a PWD Road at Rangia Tiniali and one IB at Dimu near Rangia. Besides this, he also joined in a cycle rally from Rangia to Dimu.
