Crimes against minors have been on the rise in Assam where incidents of child abuse, criminal intimidation, indecent assault, murder, and missing reports have come to the surface.

Yesterday on World Day Against Child Labor, the Railway Police Force squad from NFR's (Northeast Frontier Railway) Alipurduar division successfully rescued two minor girls and two minor boys today, as well as arresting a woman trafficker. The minors were being trafficked to Delhi.

In 2020, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) Railway Police Force (RPF) rescued 103 minor minors and arrested 14 traffickers.

Also yesterday, two minor girls who happen to be siblings were found hanging from a tree in Assam's Kokrajhar district. The sisters were aged 14 and 16. The family of the deceased sisters alleged that the girls were raped and murdered, as per the police. The corpses of the deceased sisters were recovered from a small forest patch in the Abhayakuti village on Friday evening, informed a senior police official.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited with the families of the two deceased young sisters yesterday to try to console them and share their pain. He asked the Assam police to do an extensive and in-depth investigation on this matter and dig out the cause of death. BTC Chief Pramod Boro and Kokrajhar East MLA Sri Lawrence Islary accompanied the Assam CM to visit the family members of the two deceased siblings.

Crime against minors is on the rise and is routinely reported from all throughout the state.

On Saturday, Assam Police rescued four girls from Baihata, Assam, who was suspected of being victims of attempted human trafficking. The four girls were from Paneri village in the Harisinga Tehsil of Assam's Udalguri district. In addition, one of the defendants, Giyas Ali (32), has been detained in connection with the incident. Police have detained him for interrogation. A case has been lodged in the Paneri police station under various provisions of the Child Labour Act.
