On this day the actor was found dead on his residence at Bandra, Mumbai under mysterious circumstances which created uproar across the country.

The Union government had handed over the inquiry into his death from the Bihar police to the CBI. However, the Central Bureau of Investigation's investigation has failed to settle the mystery. Several Bollywood celebrities were questioned by the CBI during their investigation. Similarly, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) investigated his death and questioned many including some actors and actresses. However, such investigations were unable to prove that the Bollywood actor was murdered. As a result, many have regarded it as suicide.
