UDALGURI/TANGLA: In a bizarre incident, four under trial prisoners escaped from Udalguri District Jail premises on Thursday night.

According to reports, the under trial prisoners were identified as Mohammed Hajimuddin, Mohammed Kajimuddin , Mofidul Islam and Kudus Ali who were housed in a quarantine ward made specifically for COVID-19 patients.

"The four under trial prisoners escaped from the quarantine ward by breaking ventilator at about 1 am on Thursday night. While Mohammed Hajimuddin and Mohammed Kajimuddin were arrested on July 18 on charges of cow theft, Mofidul Islam and Kudus Ali were arrested on July 23 under relevant sections of Cattle Trespassers Act 1971," said a prison official.
