Haflong: The fourth assembly session of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) was held at the council legislative hall on Thursday. Addressing all members of the house, chairperson Ranu Langthasa began the session with questions placed.

During the session it was unanimously agreed to withdraw the constitutional amendment bill of 2012, regarding the previous EC decision on extension of the village council in Dima Hasao district that was earlier proposed and submitted for approval of the Governor.

This decision was recently taken at the executive committee meeting held at the CEM’s conference hall stating that this constitution was contradictory to the Sixth Schedule provisions in the district and reflected the provisions of the panchayati raj in Dima Hasao. The decision taken was placed and passed during the session held.

Another resolution was passed regarding compulsory outfit for all office employees under the administrative control of NCHAC on every Monday from November 4 onwards, non-compliance of which may even lead to deduction of one-month salary.

Other questions raised by the Haflong MAC Daniel Langthasa included issues on Gaon Panchayat Development Plan, setting up of detention camp for those not registered under NRC, recruitment of the grade III and IV posts under various departments, electoral roll of the village council, shifting of Girls’ Higher Secondary School and whether any resolution had been taken in regard to the citizenship amendment bill (CAB).

It was stated that there could be no resolution adopted with regard to CAB as yet since there had been no clarification from the State or the Central government.

CEM Debolal Gorlosa stated, “Rest assured that no decision will be taken compromising the interest of the people of this district and if setting up of detention camp risks jeopardizing this land, we will rebuke it, but there has been no statement from the government about this.”
