TEZPUR: In a bid to empower women with the nuances of self-defence, a three-day self defense training for girls and women was organized by District Mahila Samiti and Tezpur Manila Samiti in association with Pravodhana at Hazarapar Stadium Tezpur on Wednesday.

The demonstration intended to address fear and empower the girls morally, mentally and physically to defend themselves in any situation. The demonstration was conducted by Prabhsharan Kaur is a Krav Maga expert and chief of Nirbhau Nari Shakti Foundation, New Delhi. She is also the first Indian female civilian law enforcement instructor.

Krav Maga consists of a combination of techniques sourced from boxing, wrestling, Muay Thai, Jiu Jitsu, Aikido, Judo, along with realistic fight training. While talking to The Sentinel, Prabhsharan Kaur said that the training will help the women to learn the basics of how to protect themselves from various kinds of abuses and assaults. She also said that the objective of this programme is to boost their spirit and make every girl more confident to protect themselves.

Around 40 participants attended the training programme from various places in Sonitpur district.
