JAMUGURIHAT: Taranath Sarma, a freedom fighter, known social worker, social reformer and organizer and former representative of mouja panchayat was remembered on his 108th birthday at Samar Dalani today. In this connection, Taranath Sarma Smriti Pustakalay located at Samar Dalani here convened a public meeting at the conference hall of Dakhin Nagsankar High School with Hem Sagar Samar, Vice-President of the library committee, in the chair.

The day-long programme began with hoisting of the institutional flag by the Vice-President. The open session began with illumination of an earthen lamp in front of the portrait of Late Sarma by Bhabani Sarma. Hemlal Sarma, a companion of Late Sarma, offered floral tributes.

The open session was inaugurated by Purna Kumar Sarma, recipient of translation prize of Sahitya Akademi. Narad Upadhyaya, a retired teacher, Bhuban Lamsal, and Damodar Baral addressed the session as appointed speakers. Puspa Dahal and Kamal Sarma read out self-composed poems. The session was also addressed by Punya Nirola, Umesh Dhakal, Gopal Sarma, and Anjan Baskota. The programme was attended by Gupta Sarma, Harilal Siruwal, Amit Baskota, Indra Sarma, Saroj Baskota, and Arun Baskota among others. All the proceedings were conducted by Mahesh Khatiwoda, Secretary of Taranath Sarma Smriti Pustakalay.
