DIGBOI: “The beautiful landscapes of the green cover under Jagun Forest Range belong to you and it’s your responsibility to protect, preserve and promote them,” said DFO Digboi TC Ranjith Ram, IFS on Sunday afternoon.

The top official of the division was addressing the representatives of various socio-cultural and student organizations, media fraternity, and forest staff of the range during his formal farewell meeting organized at Jagun in Tinsukia district. Several organizations, local leaders, and forest staff accorded felicitation to the outgoing official of the division with a mixed feeling.

The divisional forest official, who would hand over the charge to his successor BV Sandeep IFS on Monday, stated that the potential forest landscape of the region has undergone changes.

“Unlike earlier, the wildlife creatures are seen roaming about freely and the beautiful green cover offers opportunities to promote tourism in the area following relentless efforts of the forest department supported by common people,” said Ranjith Ram. The official also urged the house to extend similar cooperation and solidarity towards the new DFO in the best interest to preserve and promote the existing biodiversity forest.

Representatives of various organizations greatly lauded the efforts of the DFO for his more than four years of dedication towards the cause of the forest and wildlife.

“Taking into possession Assam’s forest land from the Arunachal border through permanent demarcation concrete posts is one of the unprecedented achievements of the official,” said an office bearer of the AJYCP.

“Given free hand to work, I never saw the ticking of clocks while serving as In-charge Jagun forest Range. Afforestation drive was launched, encroachment dealt with iron fist, interstate timber smuggling reduced significantly, and anti-forest and wildlife poaching activities intensified under the leadership of the DFO,” reiterated the In-charge of the forest range.

The DFO has been transferred to North Guwahati Forest Division in Kamrup district and would take charge of the extensive division on Wednesday, informed a department source.
