KOKRAJHAR/BONGAIGAON: The district administration of Chirang, on Friday distributed 2,163 Galvanized Iron (GI) sheets to a total of 102 landless families of village Sishubari under Bijni Revenue Circle, who had lost their land due to erosion caused by the Makra River following the heavy rainfall in the bordering areas of Bhutan on August 14 and August 15, 2021. Presently, they are taking shelter at Sishubari Playground Temporary Relief Camp in tarpaulin-built makeshift tents since August 16, 2021.

Since such makeshift arrangement is not suitable to stay for a long time from the health and hygiene perspective, the district administration has decided to distribute GI sheets to all the landless families through Public Works Department (Road and Building), Chirang division. The measure is being undertaken to improve the living condition of those inmates from the health and hygiene point of view. The required labourers and other construction materials will be arranged locally by the villagers. Meanwhile, the matter for permanent resettlement of these displaced people is also being taken up.
