Palasbari: In view of the ensuing flood, the first ever model relief camp in the State will be set up at Nahira-Guimara village under Palasbari revenue circle in Kamrup district. This was announced in a public meeting held on Thursday at Nahira Anchalik High School by the officials of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

The ASDMA officials informed that as per direction of the State Government, a model relief camp for the flood-hit people would be coming up for the first time in Assam here at Nahira - Guimara. They also informed that due to COVID situation, separate rooms for the elderly persons, women, students and children would be available with sanitary napkins and other essential relief items in the camp. They also assured in the meeting that no marooned person would have to live without adequate food and shelter. Several hundred families of Nahira, Guimara, Chimina, Futuri, Bartari, Makadhoj, Panikhaiti and many other villages under Palasbari revenue circle in Kamrup district have to take shelter in relief camps due to devastating floods every year. A large number of erosion-hit families have been taking shelter on dykes for the past several years as their houses and crop lands have already been submerged by the mighty Brahmaputra following massive erosion two decades ago.
