SIVASAGAR: The Department of English, Gargaon College, in collaboration with IQAC, Gargaon College, successfully organized a national webinar on the topic 'Trends in Contemporary Indian Women's Writing in English' on Monday. The webinar was inaugurated by Dr. Sabyasachi Mahanta, Principal of Gargaon College.

In his inaugural speech, Dr. Mahanta spoke about the emergence of a number of women writers and their contribution to the enrichment of the rich gamut of Indian English literature. Dr. Surajit Saikia, the coordinator of IQAC, Gargaon College, also spoke about the relevance of the topic referring to some eminent Indian women writers, especially focusing on north-eastern women writers.

Eminent speakers Prof. Anmona Bora, former Associate Professor and Vice-Principal of J.B. College, Jorhat and Dr. Indu Swami, Assistant Professor of the Department of English, Assam University, Diphu campus had been invited as resource persons for the webinar. Professor Anmona Bora spoke about the various trends of contemporary Indian women's writing in English. She also highlighted a different angle of looking at feminism, throwing much light on the works of the women poets.

Dr. Indu Swami in her deliberation reflected on the contributions of various women writers in the contemporary period. Dr. Swami spoke about the influence of patriarchal society on women's writing, the various issues of contemporary women's writing in Indian English literature and in the writings of the north-eastern women writers too.

The English department's first e-magazine Rumination was also released on the occasion by Professor Anmona Bora. The webinar was coordinated by Dr. Rashmi Rekha Saikia, head of the Department of English.
