Gargaon College shines in DU inter-college youth festival

Sivasagar: Gargaon College, the premier educational institution of Upper Assam that has been providing a plank to the youth to excel in the field of academics, culture, and sports since 1959, organized the DU inter-college youth festival 2019-2020 for the first time in its 60 years’ history. This mega event kicked off on February 11 and came to an end on February 14.

The festival was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, Prof. Ranjit Tamuly on February 11 in presence of other dignitaries with a congratulatory note to the organizing committee and all the participants. In his welcome note, Dr. Sabyasachi Mahanta, Principal of Gargaon College, reminisced the contribution of every stalwart who built the 60-year old edifice of the glorious Gargaon College. He also described the youth as the central force of today’s society and pointed out the relevance of organizing such youth festivals for the all-round development of the youth. In this inaugural session, four books were released. The souvenir of the youth festival, Yuva-Unmesh, edited by Shyamolima Saikia, Dr. Sabyasachi Mahanta’s Saraswati Pujar Sundari Aru Duta WhatsApp Barta, Dr. Montu Gogoi’s Project Report Writing and Dr. Meghali Borah and Dr. Nayan Baruah’s Trade and Industries of Assam During the Ahom Reign were formally released.

Internationally acclaimed film actor Bishnu Khargharia, popular singers Jubilee Barua and Rupam Bhuyan, cultural convener of Dibrugarh University, Prof. Jyoti Prasad Saikia and several other reputed persons of the locality, and nearly 1,500 student participants and teacher representatives from 68 colleges were present in the inaugural session. After that 42 competitive events were organized in seven different stages of Gargaon College among the competitors of different colleges.
