Boko: Garo people in Assam will get the Garo Autonomous Council soon. This was stated by Arbithson G. Momin, president of Garo Autonomous Council Joint Movement Committee, on Monday in Boko. Momin said that a delegation of 12 persons of the committee met Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in his Assembly room in Dispur, under the leadership of Welfare of Plain Tribe and other Backward Classes minister Chandan Brahma on Monday morning.

During the visits, Momin told the Chief Minister about how Garo tribal people in Assam had been deprived since a long time. The delegation submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, where they demanded the creation of Garo Autonomous Council (GAC) under satellite type of system for the Garo people of Assam without any delay, with land and revenue powers. Momin said that only this way the Garo people of Assam would get everything and would be protected. He also added that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal had given assurance that no tribal people would be deprived in Assam and the tribal people would get their rights. The Chief Minister had also immediately ordered Chandan Brahma to take necessary action in the matter.
