Gauhati HC Orders Forest Dept to File Report on Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary’s Border Issue

It should be noted that the high court requested the forest department to present a map showing the limits of the Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary in its own lawsuit, which was filed in 2013.

GUWAHATI: According to reports that surfaced on Monday, the Gauhati High Court ordered the Assam Forest Department to submit a report on the demarcation of the borders of the Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary in Guwahati within eight weeks.

Sources claim that the high court mandated that the forest department explicitly define the borders in its report, which is due in eight weeks.

It should be noted that the high court requested the forest department to present a map showing the limits of the Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary in its own lawsuit, which was filed in 2013.

According to official information, the Survey of India is attempting to define the four borders. The district government in Nagaon and Sonitpur, Assam, conducted a drive last month to clear the Bura Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary of unpermitted encroachments.

Over 1,892 hectares of land were freed from unauthorised habitation as a result of the extensive anti-encroachment campaign, according to officials. The district administration put in place a lot of security to prevent any unfortunate incidents during the eviction campaign.

The district administration of Sonitpur and Nagaon claims that encroachers in the area have illegally occupied substantial portions of public land and that notices to evacuate have already been given to the occupants.

During the eviction effort, about 50 excavators and 30 tractors have been stationed in the Char-Chapori district, close to the wildlife sanctuary. The district administration of Sonitpur and Nagaon claims that encroachers in the area have illegally occupied substantial portions of public land and that notices to evacuate have already been given to the occupants.
