Golaghat AASU staged protest against Irrigation department over farmer neglect

GOLAGHAT: The members of All Golaghat District students’ Union staged protest against the irrigation department on Saturday for failing to provide adequate measures to the farmers in the agricultural field.

The activists shouted various slogans against the irrigation department and demanded immediate action to provide irrigation facilities to the farmers.

This protest programme has been organized in front of the Martyrs' Bhawan against the extreme failure of the Assam government's Irrigation department in providing benefits to farmers. Currently, many areas of land in Golaghat district lying unused and leaving many agricultural fields uncultivated due to a lack of adequate water, Farmers are unable to farm due to the water shortage, resulting in a situation where they are left with their hands on their heads. Nevertheless, the student organization alleges that the Department has not taken any measures.
