KALAIGAON: Kalaigaon anchalik committee of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) staged a dharna against Kalaigaon APDCL on Friday in front of the Kalaigaon APDCL office for poor supply of electricity. According to Madhurjya Sarma, Secretary of Udalguri AASU, frequent load shedding and power cuts in Kalaigaon along with its neighbouring areas has paralyzed normal life since the past one month.
He said, “Most business establishments of Kalaigaon have started using generators due to power cuts for most part of the day. However, the high cost of fuel is a major worry. Business establishments like medicine shops, internet cafes, and health centres have been adversely affected. Students have also been affected as power cuts during the evening hours are hampering their studies. Meanwhile, 106 villages of Kalaigaon have been shrouded in darkness after just a few drops of rain fell.”
Sarma said that thus, the organizations of Kalaigaon like AASU along with people were compelled to stage a dharna and gherao the Kalaigaon electricity office as a mark of protest.
