MANGALDAI: Living legend Dr Bhupen Hazarika had described it as an 'Eternal Melody' ! Lieutenant General Gyan Bhushan during his tenure as the GOC of Red Horns Division described it as 'wonderful'! Prominent personalities of the State in their respective fields namely Pandit Maheswar Neog, Homen Borgohain, Khagen Mahanta and Archana Mahanta, Pratima Pandey and others had also blessed this institution with their benign presence. And this institution is none but 'Youth Club' -the pride of Mangaldai which has taken up all preparations to celebrate the three day duration closing function of their golden jubilee celebration on January 6, 7 and 8 of 2023.
The closing ceremony will feature many socio cultural activities including open meeting and felicitation to distinguished persons across India, cultural evenings on all the three days, release of the souvenir, get together of the present and ex members and students of the music college run by the club and others. Significantly, the Youth Club will offer felicitation in public to Major General (retired) Bhaskar Kalita and ideal and progressive farmer Khirod Sarma on January 8 reflecting the spirit of Jai Jawan, Jai Kishan. Minister of Cultural and Youth Welfare Bimal Borah, Rajya Sabha MP Pabitra Margherita, Sattriya exponent Jatin Goswami and former Indian Ambassador A Natarajan are likely to grace the celebration in the open session on the closing day of January 8 while the limelight of the cultural function of the day will be the popular singer Bipin Chaudang and traditional cultural troupe from Manipur.
This has been stated by Girish Deka and Anupam Deka, the president and secretary of the Reception Committee of the Golden Jubilee celebration in presence of Gobinda Upadhyay and Rajib Kr Deka, president and secretary of Youth Club respectively while addressing media on Wednesday afternoon at the club promises. They further stated that the year long golden jubilee celebration earlier began on the first day of January 2022 and it marked with a number of socio cultural activities like distribution of fruits to the indoor patients of Mangaldai Civil Hospital, community cleanliness drive, plantation in several educational institutions, lecture on the life and works of Late Kulendra Ch Deka the founder president of the club presented by veteran scholar Dr Nagendra Nath Sarma, workshop on Sattriya, Bihu, Bhupendra sangeet and traditional 'Nagara Nam' etc.
