Government should stop delaying tactics on forming Boro Kachari council: UBPO

Kokrajhar: To pressurize the governments of India and Assam to form the Boro Kachari Autonomous Council outside BTC districts in Assam, the United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO) on Tuesday staged a massive gathering at Satish Chandra Basumatary Memorial High School playground at Sanjari Nwgwr in Dhemaji district. Several hundreds of supporters of UBPO from Dhemaji, North Lakhimpur, Dibrugargh, Charaideo and Tinsukia districts joined the mass gathering.

Talking to this reporter, the president of the UBPO, Mihiniswar Basumatary said the governments of India and Assam had been systematically delaying the creation of Boro Kachari Autonomous Council outside BTC districts. He said the UBPO was compelled to start its democratic mass movement due to the lackadaisical attitude of the government. “The Boro Kachari people outside BTC areas have been lagging behind in all spheres and they are deprived of all privileges and justice,” he said, adding that over 10 lakh Boro Kachari people outside BTC districts were being deprived of socio-economic development and development of language, literature and culture. He also said they were not getting due political rights and their lands were not protected.

Basumatary said the repeated denial of the government to form new council was a matter of concern. He said they had been closely observing the sincerity of the government in creating Boro Kachari autonomous council. He also warned that the Boro Kachari people would be compelled to review the support they extended to the parties who are running the present government.

General secretary of the organization, Anil Basumatary said the government had failed to fulfil its commitment to form new council. He said the BJP promised to form the Boro Kachari Autonomous Council if voted to power but they had forgotten their commitment. He said there was no option for the organization but to start the agitation again. He also warned that there would be a series of agitation programmes till the formation of new council as announced earlier. He said the talks with the NDFB for solution could take more time but new council outside BTC could be created. He also said that there would be mass gathering in Guwahati on November 26 and dharna at Dispur Last Gate.
