LAKHIMPUR: "Responding to the demand made by United Bodo People's Organization (UBPO), the Union and State governments have initiated praiseworthy moves to form Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) as per recommendation mentioned in 5.1 paragraph of the 5th section of the 3rd Bodo Peace Accord. The State Government has taken decision to form the BKWAC on October 7 through an ordinance."
This was declared by Peetambor Brahma, the chairperson of UBPO, in Dhemaji. He said so while taking part in a mega public meeting organized by Dhemaji district unit of UBPO at Simen Chapori Multi-purpose Auditorium in view of holding detailed discussion and creating mass awareness regarding the formation of the BKWAC. The meeting commenced with Dhemaji unit UBPO president Manoranjan Basumatari in the presence of the dignitaries of the Bodo community organizations, intellectual figures, academicians and social activists.
Dhemaji unit UBPO general secretary Dipankar Narzari explained the objectives of the programme. Addressing the gathering, Peetambor Brahma said that the Bodo people living outside the BTC area had been deprived of their judicious and constitutional rights for years in political, socio-economical, academic and cultural aspects.
"UBPO had been accelerating various political activities for years with BPF president Hagrama Mohilary, ministers Chandan Brahma, Pramila Rani Brahma and former BTC deputy CEM Kampa Borgoyary to achieve comprehensive development for 10 lakh Bodo people living in 21 districts of the State outside BTC area. But unfortunately, Hagrama Mohilary, Chandan Brahma and Pramila Rani Brahma betrayed the Bodo people living outside the BTC area standing as hurdle to the formation of the BKWAC in the last assembly session. Despite this, the State Government initiated move to form the same. As the result of the demand raised by UBPO, boldly standing against the political conspiracy hatched by BPF, the State Government has decided to form the BKAC on October 7," stated the UBPO chairperson in the meeting.
On the other hand, UBPO general secretary Sukreswar Goyari said that the formation of the BKWAC would pave the way for the Bodo people living outside the BTC area to achieve political right and to create an administrative system. He remarked that the Bodo people would have to proceed unitedly in order to achieve this success.
In the programme, academician Lalit Chandra Bodo, Brahma Dharma Samiti adviser Birendra Kumar Brahma, All Bodo LP Teachers' Association president Chabin Swargiyari, and other dignitaries also delivered speeches hailing the State Government's decision to form the BKWAC. The speakers laid stress on forming the BKWAC with unanimous support from all.
