Govt. Hospital Doctors In Hailakandi Protest Following Fight With Patient's Family

GUWAHATI: After one of the doctors got into a fight with a patient's family three days prior, the medical staff at the government hospital staged a protest on January 20 and shut down operations for an hour. The doctors at S K Rai hospital protested, demanding protection and security from the families of such patients going forward as well as legal action against those responsible for the doctor's altercation.

I'm carrying out my responsibilities in accordance with the duty charts that were provided to me. On the day of the event, after finishing my shift and making sure nothing remained on my watch, I headed home. If there is an emergency, doctors who have been assigned to handle such instances will investigate. It was misinterpreted by the patient's family. On our end, there were no mistakes. I cannot confirm whether the viral video was produced as part of a political strategy or only as a means of defaming us. We are unable to comment on it, but I can assure you that there was no negligence on our part," a doctor told the media.

A few days earlier, the patient's family reportedly visited the hospital while the doctor was still purportedly out of the hospital working his private practice in the private chamber. The patient is said to have failed to find a doctor who could see him after this.

According to reports, the doctor ignored this and continued to run his private practice. Eventually, the public became upset with the doctor's behaviour and called him from the chamber and asked him to see the patient who had arrived at the S K Rai hospital. The patient's family was apparently acting inappropriately around them, and the doctor later got into a fight with them.
