AMINGAON: A total of 80 beneficiaries of the district were handed over cheques under 'Chief Minister's COVID-19 Widows Support Scheme' at a function held in the Office Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup district. The cheques of Rs. 2.5 lakh each were handed over by Chandra Mohan Patowary, the Guardian Minister of the District and Minister of Industries and Commerce, Transport, etc.

Minister Patowary said that the pain of losing someone nearest cannot be met by any financial assistance but this scheme is a humanitarian effort of the Chief Minister to stand nearby the families in their crucial moment. The minister also said that in the coming days, the government would be with them in any inconvenience caused to these families.

Further he said that even in such an age of science, COVID medicine is not yet been produced which indicates the wrath of nature only. Nature has only to show the path for it, he said. He also urged every woman to take up their responsibility towards their families overcoming this unfortunate moment in life.

Queen Oja , MP, Gauhati Lok Sabha Constituency and MLAs namely Diganta Kalita, Hemanga Thakuria and Suman Haripriya also addressed the meeting. In the context of their speeches, they expressed sympathy for the beneficiaries and paid homage to the people who died in COVID and assured them assistance in any critical moment of these bereaved families in future.

Earlier, in his welcome address, D C Kailash Karthik N had mentioned that financial assistance under the scheme will be provided to every eligible beneficiary. It may be mentioned here that 24 beneficiaries of the district had already benefited under this scheme. Today's meeting was attended by the officials from various departments like Health, Social Welfare etc. besides the officials of the district administration and beneficiaries, stated a press release.
