SIVASAGAR: The Principal Secretary of the Education Department, designated as Guardian Secretary of Sivasagar district, B. Kalyan Chakravarthy visited Sivasagar on Sunday to take stock of the various issues in the district. He chaired a meeting with Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Bishnu Kamal Bora and other officers at Sivasagar Circuit House to review the progress of the Pure Drinking Water Home Connection Scheme under the flagship programme 'Jal Jeevan Mission'.

Chakravarthy stressed getting the project completed faster. The Guardian Secretary also discussed about the Prime Minister Kishan Scheme in the meeting. He also discussed about police outposts set up at Assam-Nagaland border in the district along with various challenges faced by locals of Assam living along the Assam-Nagaland border. He also took stock of the steps taken to prevent the infection of African Swine Fever in the district.

Deputy Commissioner Bishnu Kamal Bora informed the Guardian Secretary about the current COVID situation in the district and the measures taken to check the virus by the administration. The Deputy Commissioner also informed that the COVID situation was improving in the district.

The Guardian Secretary later met with the Principals of various colleges of the district at the Circuit House. The Guardian Secretary urged the Principals to increase the number of seats for enrollment in the colleges so that there would not be a situation where students cannot study due to lack of seats. He also discussed the infrastructural development required for the process. The Guardian Secretary discussed widely about the implementation of the new education policy.

During his interaction with the Principals, which was also attended by Kamaljyoti Gogoi, Inspector of Schools, Sivasagar, and Pabitra Pran Bhattacharya, Secretary of State Academic Council, the Guardian Secretary took stock of the infrastructure, curriculum, educational management and various issues of the colleges. He stressed the need to speed up the work related to educational management. The Guardian Secretary also visited Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology and Assam Rajiv Gandhi Cooperative Management University and took stock of the facilities available in the institutions.
