NALBARI: The 92nd birthday of Guruji Adya Sharma was celebrated on Friday by Nalbari Art School. Adya Sharma was a producer of mobile theatre from Nalbari district of Assam. Sharma was born in Makhibaha, Nalbari district on November 5, 1929. He was known as Guruji and Kaka. His first production was at the Purbajyoti Theatre in 1966. He was also a well known painter and sculpture artiste in Assam.

He was awarded Bishnu Prasad Rabha Award by Assam Government and Pranab Barua Award for his contribution to the cultural world. Assam government had also honoured him with an artiste's pension.

He is also the founder of Ranghar, an organisation dedicated to promote painting in Nalbari. Nalbari Art School president Pabin Sarma and noted artiste Khasnur Ahmed delivered speeches on the activities of the great artiste. The celebration was conducted by Nripendra Kumar Sarma, a student of Adya Sharma and a tabla artiste. Nalbari Art School in-charge president Abdul Mannaf, Rekha Devi, Debajit Bhattacharyya were present in the celebration.
