Guwahati: Traffic Regulations Imposed Ahead of Amit Shah's Visit for NEC Meet

Several dignitaries of the ruling party along with other senior members will be visiting Guwahati for the NEC meeting and several traffic regulations have been placed for the next three days.

GUWAHATI: In a release issued by the Guwahati Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) late on Thursday, necessary steps have been taken by the authorities to prevent congestion and other issues due to the VIP movement in view of the NEC meet in the city.

A two-day meeting for the 70th Plenary Session of North East Council (NEC) is scheduled in Guwahati for Saturday and Sunday.

The traffic regulations are for different varieties of commercial vehicles and are valid from October 7 to 9;

Plying of commercial goods carrying vehicles of 6 wheels and above shall be restricted on NH-27 and NH-17 falling under Guwahati City from 11:30 A.M to 11 P.M on October 7.

Plying of commercial goods carrying vehicles of 4 wheels and above shall be restricted on NH-27 and NH-17 falling under Guwahati City from 7 A.M to 11:30 PM on October 8.

Plying of commercial goods carrying vehicles (small/medium/ heavy) shall be restricted on D.G Road, A.T Road, M.G. Road, K.L.B. Road, Taibullah Road, G.N.B. Road, B. Boruah Road and G.S. Road from 8 AM to 11:30 AM on October 9.

Union Minister Amit Shah will start his three-day Northeast visit today. The first state on his itinerary is Sikkim where he will inaugurate a dairy meeting. The Eastern and North-Eastern Zones Dairy Cooperative Conclave-2022 will be held in the capital city of Gangtok. He will also unveil a statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at Rajbhavan in Gangtok. This will be followed by a meeting with the senior party official of the state before leaving for the Northeast Council Meeting in Guwahati.

Union Minister Amit Shah and BJP President J P Nanda are expected to meet senior members of the state today evening before the NEC meeting happening tomorrow. This two-day meet will be the 70th Plenary Session of North East Council. The Union Minister will inaugurate the meet tomorrow morning and several chief ministers are expected to be a part of the event. Governors of all eight Northeastern States will also be present, alongside several senior officials of the council.

The Union Home Minister will also open the new the newly constructed state BJP office at Basistha in the city, wherein representatives from across the region will be present. This visit carries a lot of significance as Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura will go to elections in February next year.
