Guwahati: Two People Injured After "driverless" Automobile Hits Their Two-Wheeler

GUWAHATI: In a startling incident, a scooter at a gas station was hit by a supposedly parked car that started moving on its own. Two people were injured in the accident. The terrifying CCTV footage of the collision reveals that a driverless car struck the scooter and dragged the driver and the pillion rider for a distance.

The incident happened on November 8 at 4 PM, as shown by the video's time stamp. Guwahati, the capital of Assam, is where this incident is said to have occurred.

The scooter's two occupants were knocked off their vehicle by the collision and fell to the ground, as seen in the video, before being dragged for a distance.

The car, which looked to be a manual-driving model, had no one seated inside.

The onlookers acted quickly to rescue the victims. A man can be seen in the video stopping the automobile after opening the driver's side door. The onlookers can then be seen assisting the injured individuals in standing up.

Sources also mention that despite the state's strict traffic regulations and standards that have been put in place for this Durga Puja 2022 festival, over 600 incidences of road accidents have been registered in Assam.

As many as 643 recorded accidents have been registered during the five days of celebrations that began on October 1, according to statistical data released by Mrityunjay 108 Emergency Ambulance service, which is nearly 100 more cases than the previous year.

According to the data, there have been 75 accidents reported in the rural Kamrup district this year, followed by Sonitpur (53 cases), Nagaon (46 cases), Udalguri (40 cases), and Darrang (33 cases) over the previous four days.

Over the course of the Durga Puja festival last year, the state recorded a total of 541 traffic accidents. Whereas Golaghat district reported roughly 48 road accident cases, Kamrup rural district alone reported a total of 49 cases. 32 accidents were reported by the districts of Tinsukia and Sonitpur combined.
