Haflong: Demanding early payment of salary and ouster of present executive engineer in-charge Pinaki Sankar Kar, all the employees of PHE Haflong division staged dharna in front of the Executive Engineer’s office, PHE Haflong Division on Wednesday.

About 282 employees of PHE Haflong division are yet to get their salary for the last six months resulting in financial hardship for their families. A delegation of the aggrieved employees wished to meet the in-charge Executive Engineer, PHE Haflong Division on 9.08.2019 regarding non-payment of salary but the in-charge Executive Engineer (PHE) Haflong Division allegedly behaved very rudely with the delegation and did not even listen to the demands.

In this regard, a meeting of the Halong branch of All Assam PHE Employees’ Association was held on November 14 wherein everyone expressed great displeasure for non-payment of monthly salary since the last six months causing great hardship to the employees.

The meeting had urged upon the authority concerned to pay the pending salary at the earliest otherwise, the association would be compelled to take up agitation programs such as the demonstration in front of the divisional office and withdrawal of work from the site, the responsibility of which would have to be borne by the authority concerned.

The meeting expressed dissatisfaction at the delay in the preparation of monthly pay bills as a result of which the employees did not receive their salary on time and which was generally paid in the last part of the month. The meeting, therefore, urged upon the i/c Executive Engineer (PHE) Haflong Division to depute efficient staff for the preparation of pay bills so that they could get their salary on time.

Bipul Longmailai, secretary of the All Assam PHE Employees’ Association, Haflong said, “We are protesting to demand early payment of our salary but if the authority concerned fails to pay any heed to our demand, we will be bound to go for the strike from December 11.”
