DHUBRI: A social activist of Dhubri, Simul Sarkar submitted a memorandum to Dhubri DC on garbage dumping and burning in the Dhubri Mela Field, which is causing serious health hazards to the residents. The memorandum expressed serious apprehension and fear of outbreak of epidemic due to foul smell emitted from the garbage dumped and thick smoke of burning of garbage is suffocating the residents of ward no 1,2 and 6.

In view of this, Sarkar urged upon the Dhubri Deputy Commissioner to take necessary steps and save the lives of the residents. Talking to The Sentinel, Sarkar informed that this is the area in the town where Ashokastami Fair is being held annually along with other social and cultural programmes and garbage dumping and burning of garbage there is a matter of grave concern.

"In view of growing number of COVID-19 positive cases in Dhubri, Dhubri Municipal Board should undertake special drive to make the town clean and free from air pollution, but instead of that garbage is being piled up in the Dhubri Mela Field, which we fear will create a serious health problem in the days to come," Sarkar said.
