SIVASAGAR/GAURISAGAR: State Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday visited Sivasagar to review the COVID-19 situation in the district.

Sarma had a review meeting with the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, Joint Director of Health Services and other officials involved with COVID-19 containment and treatment measures in the district at the Sukafa conference hall of the DC's office.

Keeping in view the possibility of increasing corona positive cases in the district in the coming days, Sarma instructed the district administration to take adequate initiatives for arranging another 250 beds for COVID patients. Asking the district administration to set up at least 3-4 screening centres in the municipality areas of Sivasagar town with one GNM, one MPW and two laboratory technicians in each centre, Sarma suggested enhancing COVID screening by Rapid Antigen Test and T.P.C.R. in the coming days.

To ensure that the virus did not spread further, the Health Minister asked the police department to enforce the ban on inter-district travel strictly.

The meeting was attended by Union Minister for Food Processing and Industry, Rameswar Teli, Minister of State for Revenue and Disaster Management, Jogen Mohan, Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tassa, Jorhat MP Topon Kr. Gogoi, Thowra MLA Kushal Dowari, Joint Director of Health Dr SM Sarmah, Deputy Commissioner Lakhinandan Gogoi and other high-level officials.
