Tezpur: Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday paid a visit to and reviewed the various facilities available in the isolation ward set up at Tezpur Medical College and Hospital at Tumuki in Sonitpur district. He was accompanied by Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Pijush Hazarika, MLA of Borsola, Ganesh Limboo, Principal Secretary, Health & Family Welfare, Samir Sinha, Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur, Manvendra Pratap Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner Satyajit Chetia, Principal-cum- Chief Superintendent, TMCH, Dr. Karuna Hazarika and others.
He later held a meeting with the Principal and doctors of Tezpur Medical College and Hospital in the TMCH auditorium on Monday and asked them to be prepared for any eventuality and be mentally prepared to deal with a large load of COVID-19 patients in the district. He said the government was taking all kinds of preventive measures to stop the spread of the disease in the State looking at the lessons learnt from other States in the country. He appealed to the doctors to sincerely carry out their day-to-day activities and be ready to provide support to outside hospitals if necessary.
Sarma asked the doctors to keep themselves updated with the latest research being done in this field and strictly follow the treatment protocol issued by the Department of Health and Family Welfare. He also asked the TMCH authorities to train the medical, para-medical staff and take steps to decongest the TMCH to the extent possible.
The minister also appealed to the doctors to dedicate themselves to the cause of humanity in these trying times. At the same time, he asked all doctors and health workers to use protective gear while dealing with COVID-19 positive patients.
