Hindu Boy Lying to Hindu Girl is also called 'Love Jihad': Assam CM

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said that the state government will bring a law soon to check the hazard of men marrying women by concealing religious identity and other information and he said that it will be "equal for Hindus and Muslims." The CM further said that even a Hindu man should not marry a Hindu woman by disguising information or lying about him. CM Sarma said that he does not want to use this term as "Love Jihad." As "Love Jihad" is a term used by conservative groups to target connections between Muslim men and Hindu women, which, they say, is a trap to persuasively convert women, the BJP government, in its statement for the Assembly polls held this year, vowed to bring a policy/bill against 'Love Jihad.' Under the section "Protection of Civilisation in Assam," the statement stated that the government will formulate appropriate laws and policies to tackle and curbing the menace of 'Love Jihad' and 'Land Jihad' in Assam. This Assam marriage bill is essential for the state.

The CM also said that they had mentioned this issue in the election manifesto. He said that as the government is just two months old, first, they will bring the cow protection law, one month from now they will notify the two-child norm, and later they will bring this. As per the CM, they would prefer not to utilize the term 'Love Jihad' since they feel that even a Hindu should not cheat a Hindu. It is not like, when a Muslim cheats a Hindu, it is 'Love Jihad.' "According to me, it is also a 'Jihad' when a Hindu man marries a Hindu woman by cheating and misleading her. Hence, I don't believe in words like Jihad, etc. We need to bring a law to stop cheating to get married," added CM Sarma.

He further stated that the government will bring a law, yet it would not resemble it will be against just Muslims. The law will be equivalent in the case of Hindus and Muslims.

As Love Jihad cases in Assam cases have become common nowadays, it is mandatory to follow the proposed legislation stated by the state government as the CM said that it is equal for Hindus and Muslims. It is also mandatory for all Muslim men and Hindu women to not fall trap in such types of marriages as people hide religion. Crime against Hindus is not tolerable, as said by the CM.
