Dibrugarh: The festival of colors, Holi, was celebrated with great fervor here on both Monday and Tuesday. Although the official holiday was declared on Monday when all financial and educational institutions remained closed, the celebrations among people were carried out in all gusto even on Tuesday. The symbolic burning of ‘Holika’, which kick starts the Holi celebrations for many communities, was carried out in different areas of the town on the night of Monday. On both the days, people of all ages were seen smearing striking colors on each other. Although financial institutions and schools were functioning on Tuesday, most of the commercial establishments were seen closed. There were even a few schools that decided to end the school hours earlier than usual.

The streets wore a deserted look as the revelers came out on the streets with Holi colors and water guns to play Holi with their loved ones. Although subdued, the impact of the looming threat of COVID-19 was nevertheless seen in the celebrations this year. Following the directives laid down by WHO as well as the Indian Government, many people chose to stay indoors to avoid mass gatherings. Few revelers were also spotted playing colors with their preventive masks on.
