House passes resolution to rename North Cachar Hill Autonomous Council

A CORRESPONDENT

HAFLONG: North Cachar Hill Autonomous Council (NCHAC) Executive Member for Irrigation Department, Biswajit Daulagupu proposed the house to rename the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council to Dima Hasao Autonomous Council during the 11th (240th) Budget Session of the 12th N C Hills Autonomous Council held at the council secretariat on Thursday.

Stating that North Cachar Hills was earlier renamed as Dima Hasao vide the government notification issued under the provision of Clause (ff) of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India, he further presented that as per the provision of Para 2(3) of the Sixth Schedule, the nomenclature of the district council as a Constitutional Institution shall be body corporate by the name of the district. Thus going by the stated nomenclature, it is pertinent to rename the council.

The subject was discussed among all the members. With all the 30 members favouring the proposal, the resolution was passed by chairperson Ranu Langthasa. All the departments and official documentations will use Dima Hasao Autonomous Council with effect from April 26 for which the department concerned will issue notification as stated.
