Huge quantity of 'sulai', IMFL seized in Barpeta district

BARPETA: Personnel of the Police and Excise departments of Barpeta are continuing their operations against illicit liquor in the entire district.

During the last few days, the police seized a huge amount of illicit liquor in Barpeta district.

On Tuesday night, the Barpeta police and the Excise department jointly seized 300 litres of country-made liquor and 87 bottles of IMFL( Indian Made Foreign Liquor) from various places of Barpeta Road like Kalahbhanga, Railway Colony, and Babupara among others.

The Police and Excise personnel also seized 30 bottles of IMFL from the hotels in No 31 National Highway-31 and apprehended a person identified as Jafar Ali. The Court sent him to jail on Wednesday.

On Tuesday evening, a team led by the Circle Officer of Barnagar Revenue Circle in Sarbhog, Bipul Nath, seized 57 litres of IMFL, having a market value of Rs 30,000, informed Barpeta DIPRO Bikash Sarma. On July 12 also, a quantity of 250 litres of country-made liquor was seized by Barpeta Police. The operation against illicit liquor will be continuing in the near future also.
