SILCHAR: During the current COVID-19 pandemic and its adverse fall out on economy affecting mostly the poor and needy and the NGOs doing humanitarian works including taking care of specially challenged children, the brighter side of standing by them by Assam Rifles has also come to the fore. Upholding its cherished motto "Friends of the northeast", the Kadamtala Bn of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ. 22 Sect and HQ IGAR (East) extended humanitarian aid to Era Amader, an NGO for the specially abled children of this town. As informed by a spokesperson of Assam Rifles, Era Amader has made a place of distinction for its particular focus on children of physically challenged but of merit and potentiality. The school presently has on its roll 12 children and 3 staff to take care of them. The children attend the school every day from their homes. Each of them with their guardians were provided rice, pulses, wheat flour, sugar, tea and eggs. The head of the institution and staff were overwhelmed by the help extended by Assam Rifles and offered their sincere gratitude and thanks to them. Acknowledging the compliments, Assam Rifles assured of more such help in future. NGOs have been floated with dubious motives, masquerading themselves as saviour of downcast people. With change of guards at Delhi and Dispur, these fake NGOs have to close their shops.
