Hunger strike against Citizenship Bill by Tinsukia District Congress Committee

Our Correspondent

TINSUKIA: Tinsukia District Congress Committee observed a five-hour hunger strike in front of the DC’s office on Thursday to register its protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill and submitted a memorandum to the president of India through the Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia.

The memorandum urged upon the President of India to keep the Bill in abeyance and to compel the government to withdraw the Bill in larger public interest. The Bill in question would not only violate Article 14 of the Indian Constitution but also endanger language, culture and demography of Assam leading to a threat to the identity of Assamese people, the memorandum stated.
