LAKHIMPUR: The Hindu Yuba Chatra Parishad, Asom (HYCPA) expressed vehement resentment over the alleged lackadaisical attitude on the part of the Union Government with regard to resolving the sensitive inter-State border dispute which has affected Assam a lot. In this connection, HYCPA State president Bolen Baishya slammed the Union Government as well as the State Government by organizing a press meet at North Lakhimpur Press Club on Friday in the presence of general secretary Madhab Das, organizing secretary Bitumoni Gogoi, Lakhimpur district president Jugmajyoti Dutta and general secretary Rajib Singh.

Addressing the media persons, Bolen Boishya said that no government at the Centre had paid due importance to resolve the inter-State border dispute which Assam had to face for many years. "It is a matter of deep concern that the Union and State governments have not considered the issue with adequate importance despite many people of Assam having to lose their lives in untoward incidents that took place due to aggression from across the border," Bolen Boishya stated.

He further informed that HYCPA submitted a memorandum to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in 2014 with detailed report on the inter-state border problem and demanded him and the Union Government to resolve the problem at earliest.

"But, it is observed that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government also paid no attention to the issue like the former governments at the Centre. As a result of it, the tension in the inter-State borders has risen once again afresh. In the memorandum, it was explained how China and Christian missionaries might take advantage of the issue to agitate the State. It is unfortunate that the issue has been kept alive despite such circumstances," Baishya added.

In the press meet, HYCPA demanded the Union Government to constitute Border Dispute Study Committee comprising members from each State to fix the line of control (LOC) in order to resolve the border dispute between Assam-Arunachal Pradesh, Assam-Nagaland and Assam-Mizoram permanently.
